I have always been intrigued by the colour red. I think it is because to us red stands out, I know it certainly does to me and I think everyone got the warning that red cars are much more noticeable by the police so you shouldn’t buy one. Whereas many deep ocean creatures are red in order to disappear, as the wavelength of red light is so short, it can’t travel far in water. So most deep sea creatures have lost the ability to see red entirely, their vision tending towards the blue end of the spectrum. I kinda think that first picture looks like it should be the eye of something that prowls the deep.
I have been away from my car for over a week. Now I am not a car guy, my car isn’t that great, it is a 2007 Pontiac. It has all kinds of little faults that would probably would annoy most people. There is a water leak I can’t find, the automatic door locks only lock the doors some of the time and sometimes they lock them so well that turning the key in the door won’t open them. It generally happens to one door or the other but once it happened to both and I had to go through the trunk. Also it does have a remote but I stopped using it, in part because of the aforementioned locking issue but also it seemed that if I happened to brush the remote with anything (piece of paper, sometimes I suspected just walking by it disturbed the air around it) as I might be passing, the car alarm would go off and since it is old, the range isn’t so good. I would end up running outside and using the key to turn it off. Despite all of that I think it is awesome, it makes me laugh, it has character and everything else runs perfectly. Finally and most importantly to me it is a Manual. Manual transmissions are the best kind of transmissions frankly, they can turn a mediocre car into an incredibly fun car to drive, are better for gas mileage and what is more it takes a significant amount off the price of the car when you buy it (at least in North America) . I realize this might be a disadvantage when I go to sell it, but considering all the fun I have had with mine I think it is worth it.
I have the wanderlust, I love to travel and experience new places. Just getting back from the Bahamas was just another reminder of how much of the world there is to see. I can’t wait to head off and see someplace new, be it the other side of the world or a new trail in Halifax. I will always have to explore this beautiful world of ours, so I suppose I should bring my compass!
A sad day after an awesome night. My sister got married yesterday, it was a beautiful ceremony and a great party. Also since the reception was an open bar, that made the next the morning and flying a little rough but it was worth it. I was sad to be leave the Bahamas but all good things must come to an end I suppose. That was my condo for the week and then it was back to the bridges of Halifax. When I got back to Halifax it felt like that morning was such a long way away.
Spent some time at the beach today, and went to go and see the parents at their hotel as I hadn’t really hung out with them much for most of the week. They had a great view of the ocean from their room but they also had a view of the construction site for the new resort going up called the Baha Mar. There were quite a lot of cranes.
Today was so very awesome, two days until my sister gets married and she and my future brother in law organized a boat cruise for their family and friends. So awesome, such a beautiful day for it with some snorkeling just off Rose Island. With a bit of dance party as we sailed on the wind back to the dock.
