December 7 2013 Halifax Harbour Surprises

York-6 York-5

I wanted to go for a hike today but did not have a lot of time before it got dark.  My friend Jamie suggested this place called York Redoubt, which was a place that is pretty damn close to me but I have never been to. It is a national historic site and was originally established to defend the Halifax Harbour up until after the second world war.  It is a pretty damn interesting place to walk around even in the winter. What I really didn’t know about it was that there are a series of trails that run around the whole area that also take you down to the shoreline. Which is where I captured these pictures, not sure what this thing in the second picture is supposed to be but it looks like it was associated with the fort. Most of what it may have been seems to have rusted away however, still it looked pretty fascinating the way it was.

About jskuchta

I am just a guy who loves to explore the natural world. I love to hike and to take pictures of anything I find along the way from the smallest insect to the wide panorama of the sea. I am currently based in Toronto, Ontario but I like to travel everywhere I can. Here shall be a place for some of the things I find.
